Back from Work and Play in the Great Commonwealth of Virginia!

...and what a long, strange trip it was!  There are some funny stories coming up.  In the meantime, here's a tiny sampling of my first session in VA.  The heat and humidity were over the top, record-setting!  THIRTEEN degrees above normal for June.  Fortunately, this sweet and funny family handled it well.  I on the other hand, was soaking wet and could barely see through the salty sweat and make-up running off my face.  TMI?

Hilarious Family Portrait Session in Mesa, AZ

There were several moments throughout this session that i was laughing so hard, i actually had trouble composing a photo.  The dad was hilarious, keeping the kids laughing (along with me), telling jokes and sticking Smarties up his nose (haha, Dennis, told on ya!).  I just love this family; they are so tight-knit.  They have something very special and if the world had more of it, what a more wonderful place it would be!

Maybe it's a remnant from my days of developing photos in the darkroom; I don't know.  But I definitely have a fetish for black and white.  If you visit my house/studio, you'll see a LOT of black and white displayed on my walls.  Here are some of my faves from the urban family session that I finally finished editing last night.

Cute Family Portraits in Phoenix, AZ

Can I just start this post by saying the last 10 days have been very trying? Thanks. I needed to get that out. First my teen daughter was taken to the ER and admitted for 2 days for being on the brink of DKA (she has type ONE diabetes, which is an auto-immune disease NOT caused by diet and unpreventable and which requires insulin to stay alive). Then, yesterday, after my morning shoot and on the way to my late afternoon shoot, my teen son called to say his tooth had been half broken off and his lip was cut clean through. Long story short: another ER visit and one urban session rescheduled. There's lots more work to be done on the tooth; stitches took care of the inside and outside of his lip (which is so swollen it's unrecognizable). Poor kids; rough week. 

So, back to photography. The session I did Saturday morning (which I'm still processing, since the ER visit threw my schedule off) was with a family I did a studio session with a couple weeks ago. The urban session with them was SO FUN! Their little man was tons happier in the great outdoors than he was in the studio. Here a few sneak peeks; more later...if I find time to post.

I feel like I'm so behind on blogging.  I think, really, it's more that I've done so much and blogged so little.  But, does that mean I'm behind?  Nah.  I don't blog every session I shoot.  It depends on how much down-time I have in between and lately, that's been very little.  I've been having so much fun!  I photographed the birth of the baby in the photo below; I can't believe it's been almost 6 months already!  If appearance is any indication, mom and dad are handling parenthood fantastically!
