Black and White Fetish

.
Maybe it's a remnant from my days of developing photos in the darkroom; I don't know.  But I definitely have a fetish for black and white.  If you visit my house/studio, you'll see a LOT of black and white displayed on my walls.  Here are some of my faves from the urban family session that I finally finished editing last night.

Snail Flower

"To see a world in a grain of sand...." --William Blake

Back in the old film days (I love saying that), I had a few favorites when it came to film. For black and white, Ilford made (still makes!) a nice grainy, contrasty film called Delta 3200. The grain was beautiful...beautiful! I do love a nice grain.

Here are a couple pics of a snail flower from my backyard. I captured it digitally (not on film, just for clarification), then I converted it to b&w and added some lovely grain. Enjoy!

[sidenote: these pics remind me of many that i took during a critique class back in VA a decade or so ago. we had to go out and shoot on slide film (which i was brilliant at, i might add) then bring our slides in for class and teacher critique (on projector). i often brought extreme closeups of plants or interesting tree bark (like crepe myrtle, that's a good one) and the teacher would stare for a few minutes (her name was Stephanie...she was fantastic! i loved her) and say, "I don't know what that is, but it's beautiful!" Kinda cracked me up.]
